ಚತುಶ್ಚತ್ವಾರಿಂಶಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ

ಸಗತ್ವಾ ಸಾಗರಂ ರಾಜಾ ಗಂಗಯಾsನುಗತಸ್ತದಾ |
ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ ತಲಂ ಭೂಮೇಃ ಯತ್ರ ತೇ ಭಸ್ಮಸಾತ್ ಕೃತಾಃ ||

ಸ||ಸ ರಾಜಾ ಗಂಗಾಯಾ ಅನುಗತಃ ತದಾ ಭೂಮೇಃ ತಲಂ ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ ಯತ್ರ ತೇ ಸಾಗರಂ ಭಸ್ಮಸಾತ್ ಕೃತಾಃ |

With Ganga following him , Bhagiratha entered those earthly underground parts where his forefathers were turned into ashes.

ಭಸ್ಮನ್ಯಥಾಪ್ಲುತೇ ರಾಮ ಗಂಗಾಯಾಸ್ಸಲಿಲೇನ ವೈ|
ಸರ್ವಲೋಕಪ್ರಭುರ್ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾ ರಾಜಾನಮ್ ಇದಮಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ರಾಮ ! ಯಥಾ ಭಸ್ಮನ್ ಗಂಗಾಯಾಃ ಸಲಿಲೇನ ವೈ ಪ್ಲುತೇ ( ತಥಾ) ಸರ್ವಲೋಕ ಪ್ರಭುಃ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾ ರಾಜಾನಂ ಇದಂ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ |

' Oh Rama ! as soon as the ashes were immersed by Ganga waters then Brahma the father of all the three worlds spoke to the king as follows'.

ತಾರಿತಾ ನರಶಾರ್ದೂಲ ದಿವಂ ಯಾತಾಶ್ಚ ದೇವವತ್ |
ಷಷ್ಟಿಃ ಪುತ್ರ ಸಹಸ್ರಾಣಿ ಸಗರಸ್ಯ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ |

ಸ|| ಹೇ ನರಶಾರ್ದೂಲ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ ಸಗರಸ್ಯ ಷಷ್ಠಿಃ ಪುತ್ರ ಸಹಸ್ರಾಣಿ ತಾರಿತಾ ದೇವವತ್ ದಿವಂ ಯಾತಾಶ್ಚ|

" Oh Best of men ! The sixty thousand sons of Sagar have been released and they reached the heavenly abode of the Devas."

ಸಾಗರಸ್ಯ ಜಲಂ ಲೋಕೇ ಯಾವತ್ ಸ್ಥಾಸ್ಯತಿ ಪಾರ್ಥಿವ |
ಸಗರಸ್ಯಾತ್ಮಜಾಸ್ತಾವತ್ ಸ್ವರ್ಗೇ ಸ್ಥಾಸ್ಯಂತಿ ದೇವವತ್ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ಪಾರ್ಥಿವ ಯಾವತ್ ಲೋಕೇ ಸಾಗರಸ್ಯ ಜಲಂ ಸ್ಥಾಸ್ಯತಿ ತಾವತ್ ಸಗರಸ್ಯ ಆತ್ಮಜಃ ಸ್ವರ್ಗೇ ಸ್ಥಾಸ್ಯಂತಿ ದೇವವತ್ |

" Oh King ! As long as there are waters in the oceans , the sons of Sagara like Devas will be in the heavens.

ಇಹಂ ಚ ದುಹಿತಾ ಜ್ಯೇಷ್ಠಾ ತವ ಗಂಗಾ ಭವಿಷ್ಯತಿ |
ತ್ವತ್ಕೃತೇನ ಚ ನಾಮ್ನಾsಥ ಲೋಕೇ ಸ್ಥಾಸ್ಯತಿ ವಿಶ್ರುತಾ ||
ಗಂಗಾ ತ್ರಿಪಥಗಾ ರಾಜನ್ ದಿವ್ಯಾ ಭಾಗೀರಥೀತಿ ಚ |
ತ್ರೀನ್ ಪಥೋ ಭಾವಯಂತೀತಿ ತತಃ ತ್ರಿಪಥಗಾ ಸ್ಮೃತಾ||

ಸ|| ಗಂಗಾ ಇಹಂಚ ತವ ಜ್ಯೇಷ್ಠಾ ದುಹಿತಾ ಭವಿಷ್ಯತಿ. ಅಥ ತ್ವತ್ಕೃತೇನ ಚ ಲೋಕೇ ದಿವ್ಯಾ ಭಾಗೀರಥೀ ಇತಿ ನಾಮ್ನಾ ಸ್ಥಾಸ್ಯತಿ ವಿಶ್ರುತಾ | ರಾಜನ್ ಗಂಗಾ ತ್ರಿಪಥಗಾ ತ್ರೀನ್ ಪಥೋ ಭಾವಯಂತೀ ಇತಿ ತ್ರಿಪಥಗಾ ತತಃ ಸ್ಮೃತಾ |

" This Ganga will be your elder daughter. Because of your deeds Ganga will be known all over the world as Bhagirathi.`

ಪಿತಾಮಹಾನಾಂ ಸರ್ವೇಷಾಂ ತ್ವಮತ್ರ ಮನುಜಾಧಿಪ|
ಕುರುಷ್ವ ಸಲಿಲಂ ರಾಜನ್ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾಮಪವರ್ಜಯ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ಮನುಜಾಧಿಪ ! ಸರ್ವೇಷಾಂ ಪಿತಮಹಾನಾಂ ಸಲಿಲಂ ಕುರುಷ್ವ. ರಾಜನ್ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾಂ ಅಪವರ್ಜಯ |

" Oh King! Please perform the water rituals for your forefathers. Oh King ! complete the vow taken by you".

ಪೂರ್ವಕೇಣ ಹಿ ತೇ ರಾಜನ್ ತೇನಾತಿಯಶಸಾ ತದಾ |
ಧರ್ಮಿಣಾಂ ಪ್ರವರೇಣಾಪಿ ನೈಷ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತೋ ಮನೋರಥಃ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ರಾಜನ್ ! ತೇ ಅತಿ ಯಶಸಾ ಪೂರ್ವಕೇಣ ಏಷ ನ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತೋ ಮನೋರಥಃ |

"Oh King ! most famous of your ancestors could not accormplish this wish"

ತಥೈವಾಂಶುಮತಾ ತಾತ ಲೋಕೇ ಪ್ರತಿಮತೇಜಸಾ |
ಗಂಗಾಂ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯತಾ ನೇತುಂ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾ ನಾಪವರ್ಜಿತಾ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ತಾತ ! ತಥೈವ ಲೋಕೇ ಪ್ರತಿಮ ತೇಜಸಾ ಆಂಶೂಮತಾ ಗಂಗಾಂ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯಿತಾ ನೇತುಂ ನ ಅಪವರ್ಜಿತಾ |

" Oh Son! Anshuman , the very powerful one on the earth could not keep up his word that he 'will pray to Ganga and bring her !"
ರಾಜರ್ಷಿಣಾ ಗುಣವತಾ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಸಮತೇಜಸಃ |
ಮತ್ತುಲ್ಯ ತಪಸಾ ಚೈವ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಧರ್ಮಸ್ಥಿತೇನ ಚ ||
ದಿಲೀಪೇನ ಮಹಾಭಾಗ ತವ ಪಿತ್ರ ಅತಿ ತೇಜಸಾ |
ಪುನರ್ನ ಶಂಕಿತಾ ನೇತುಂ ಗಂಗಾಂ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯಿತಾsನಘಾ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ಅನಘಾ ! ರಾಜರ್ಷಿ ಗುಣವತಾ ಮಹರ್ಷಿ ಸಮ ತೇಜಸಃ ತಪಸಾ ಚ ಕ್ಷತ್ರ ಧರ್ಮಸ್ಥಿತೇನ ಚ ಮತ್ ತುಲ್ಯಃ ತವ ಪಿತ್ರಃ ಮಹಾಭಾಗಾ ದಿಲೀಪೇನ ಗಂಗಾಂ ನೇತುಮ್ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಯಿತಾ, ಪುನಃ ನ ಶಂಕಿತಾ |

" Oh Seer among Kings ! equal to a Maharshi in qualities and lustre, equal to me in penance and the warrior code , the great one Dilipa also prayed to bring Ganga , and later gave up having not been successful".

ಸಾ ತ್ವಯಾ ಸಮತಿಕ್ರಾಂತಾ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾ ಪುರುಷರ್ಷಭ |
ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತೋsಸಿ ಪರಮಂ ಲೋಕೇ ಯಶಃ ಪರಮಸಮ್ಮತಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ತ್ವಯಾ ಸಾ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞಾ ಸಮತಿ ಕ್ರಾಂತಾ | ಲೋಕೇ ( ತ್ವಂ) ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತೋಸಿ ಪರಮಂ ಯಶಃ ಪರಮ ಸಮ್ಮಿತಮ್ |

" You have been able to redeem the pledge. In all the three worlds you will attain great fame"

ಯಚ್ಚ ಗಂಗಾವತರಣಂ ತ್ವಯಾ ಕೃತಮರಿಂದಮ |
ಅನೃತ್ನ ಚ ಭವಾನ್ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತೋ ಧರ್ಮಸ್ಯಾಯತನಂ ಮಹತ್ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ಅರಿಂದಮ ! ಯಚ್ಚ ತ್ವಯಾ ಗಂಗಾವತರಣಂ ಕೃತಂ ಭವಾನ್ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತೋ ಅನೃತ್ನ ಚ ಧರ್ಮಸ್ಯ ಆಯತನಂ ಮಹತ್ |

"Oh Destroyer of enemies ! By bringing Ganga to earth , you have performed your duty and attained an etrnal fame."

ಪ್ಲಾವಯಸ್ಯ ತ್ವ ಮಾತ್ಮಾನಂ ನರೋತ್ತಮ ಸದೋಚಿತೇ |
ಸಲಿಲೇ ಪುರುಷವ್ಯಾಘ್ರ ಶುಚಿಃ ಪುಣ್ಯಫಲೋ ಭವ ||
ಪಿತಾಮಹಾನಾಂ ಸರ್ವೇಷಾಂ ಕುರುಷ್ವ ಸಲಿಲಕ್ರಿಯಾಮ್ |
ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿ ತೇsಸ್ತು ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ಸ್ವಂ ಲೋಕಂ ಗಮ್ಯತಾಂ ನೃಪ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ನರೋತ್ತಮ ! ತ್ವಂ ಆತ್ಮಾನಂ ಸದೋಚಿತೇ ಶುಚಿಃ ಸಲಿಲೇ ಪ್ಲಾವಯಸ್ಯಚ ಪುಣ್ಯ ಫಲೋ ಭವ | ಸರ್ವೇಷಾಂ ಪಿತಾಮಹಾನಾಂ ಸಲಿಲ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಂ ಕುರುಷ್ವ ! ತೇ ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿ ಅಸ್ತು ! ( ಅಹಂ ) ಸ್ವಂ ಲೋಕಂ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಾಮಿ | ಹೇ ನೃಪ ಗಚ್ಚತಾಂ |

" Oh Best of men ! You may bathe in the auspicious waters and obtain fruits of that action. You may leave water for all your forefathers. May all good be with you. I will now go to my abode. O King! you may also go !

ಇತ್ಯೇವ ಮುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ದೇವೇಶಃ ಸರ್ವಲೋಕ ಪಿತಾಮಹಃ |
ಯಥಾssಗತಂ ತಥಾಗಚ್ಛತ್ ದೇವಲೋಕಂ ಮಹಾಯಶಃ ||

ಸ|| ಇತಿ ಏವಂ ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಸರ್ವಲೋಕ ಪಿತಾಮಹಃ ಮಹಾಯಶಃ ದೇವೇಶಃ ಯಥಾ ಆಗತಂ ತಥಾ ದೇವಲೋಕಂ ಗಚ್ಚತ್ |

'Having said so Brahma, the great one , then went back the same way he has come'.

ಭಗೀರಥೋsಪಿ ರಾಜರ್ಷಿಃ ಕೃತ್ವಾ ಸಲಿಲಮುತ್ತಮಮ್ |
ಯಥಾಕ್ರಮಂ ಯಥಾನ್ಯಾಯಂ ಸಾಗರಾಣಾಂ ಮಹಾಯಶಃ ||
ಕೃತೋದಕ ಶ್ಶುಚೀ ರಾಜಾ ಸ್ವಪುರಂ ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ ಹ |
ಸಮೃದ್ಧಾರ್ಥೋ ರಘುಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಸ್ವರಾಜ್ಯಂ ಪ್ರಶಶಾಸ ||

ಸ|| ರಾಜರ್ಷಿಃ ಮಹಾಯಶಃ ಭಗೀರಥಃ ಅಪಿ ಯಥಾಕ್ರಮಂ ಯಥಾ ನ್ಯಾಯಂ ಸಾಗರಾಣಾಂ ಉತ್ತಮಮ್ ಸಲಿಲಂ ಕೃತ್ವಾ ,ಶುಚೀ ಕೃತೋದಕಃ ರಾಜಾ ಸ್ವಪುರಂ ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ ಹ | ಹೇ ರಘುಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ! ಸಮೃದ್ಧರ್ಥೋ ಸ್ವರಾಜ್ಯಂ ಪ್ರಶಶಾಸ |

" Bhagiratha the seer among kings, then completed the water rituals as per practice. Having completed water rituals and cleansing himself he entered his own city. Oh Best of Raghus ! There after he ruled the kingdom well endowed with all forms of wealth. '

ಪ್ರಮುಮೋದ ಹ ಲೋಕಸ್ತಂ ನೃಪಮಾಸಾದ್ಯ ರಾಘವ |
ನಷ್ಟಶೋಕಃ ಸಮೃದ್ಧಾರ್ಥೋ ಬಭೂವ ವಿಗತಜ್ವರಃ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ರಾಘವ ! ತಂ ನೃಪಮ್ ಆಸಾದ್ಯ ಲೋಕಃ ನಷ್ಠ ಶೋಕಃ ವಿಗತ ಜ್ವರಃ ಸಮೃದ್ಧರ್ಥೋ ಬಭೂವ |

' Oh Raghava ! Under his rule the people were without sorrow or worries and were endowed with all forms of wealth. '

ಏಷ ತೇ ರಾಮ ಗಂಗಾಯಾ ವಿಸ್ತರೋ sಭಿಹಿತೋ ಮಯಾ |
ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ನುಹಿ ಭದ್ರಂ ತೇ ಸಂಧ್ಯಾಕಾಲೋತಿ ವರ್ತತೇ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ರಾಮ ! ಏಷ ತೇ ಮಯಾ ಗಂಗಾಯಾ ವಿಸ್ತರೋ ಅಭಿಹಿತಃ | (ತ್ವಂ) ಸ್ವಸ್ತಿ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ನುಹಿ | ತೇ ಭದ್ರಂ ಅಸ್ತು ! ಸಂಧ್ಯಾಕಾಲಃ ವರ್ತತೇ ಇತಿ |

'Oh Rama ! Thus I have explained the way Ganga was brought the earth. May all good happen to you . Now we are nearing the twilight time'.

ಧನ್ಯಂ ಯಶಸ್ಯ ಮಾಯುಷ್ಯಂ ಪುತ್ತ್ರ್ಯಂ ಸ್ವರ್ಗ್ಯಮತೀವ ಚ
ಯಶ್ಶ್ರಾವಯತಿ ವಿಪ್ರೇಷು ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯೇಷ್ವಿತರೇಷು ಚ ||
ಪ್ರೀಯಂತೇ ಪಿತರಸ್ತಸ್ಯ ಪ್ರೀಯಂತೇ ದೈವತಾನಿ ಚ |
ಇದಮಾಖ್ಯಾನಮ್ವ್ಯಗ್ರೋ ಗಂಗಾವತರಣಂ ಶುಭಮ್||

ಸ|| ಇದಂ ಗಂಗಾವತರಣಂ ಆಖ್ಯಾನಂ ಯಃ ಶ್ರಾವಯತಿ ವಿಪ್ರೇಷು ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯೇಷು ಇತರೇಷು ಚ (ಸಃ) ಧನ್ಯಂ ಯಶಸ್ಯ ಅಯುಷ್ಯಂ ಪುತ್ತ್ರಂ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಂ ( ಪ್ರಾಪ್ನೋತಿ). ತಸ್ಯ ಪಿತರಃ ಪ್ರೀಯಂತೇ , ದೈವತಾನಿ ಪ್ರೀಯಂತಿ ಚ |

' Who ever reads this story of Ganga's arrival on earth to Brahmins, Kshtriyas and others, his purpose of his life is fullfilled, he will attain fame, longevity, sons, and reach heaven too ! They will please their forefathers in heaven and also the Devas !

ಯ ಶ್ಶೃಣೋತಿ ಚ ಕಾಕುತ್ ಸ್ಥ ಸರ್ವಾನ್ ಕಾಮಮವಾಪ್ನುಯಾತ್ |
ಸರ್ವೇ ಪಾಪಾಃ ಪ್ರಣಸ್ಯಂತಿ ಆಯುಃ ಕೀರ್ತಿಶ್ಚ ವರ್ಥತೇ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ಕಾಕುಸ್ಥ ! ಯಃ ಶೃಣೋತಿ (ಸಃ) ಸರ್ವಾನ್ ಕಾಮಾನ್ ಅವಾಪ್ನುಯಾತ್ | (ತಸ್ಯ) ಸರ್ವೇ ಪಾಪಾಃ ಪ್ರಣಸ್ಯಂತಿ ! ಆಯುಃ ಕೀರ್ಥಿಃ ವರ್ಥತೇ ಚ |

'Oh Kakutstha ! Who ever listens to the story will have all his wishes fullfilled . Their sins will be destroyed. Their fame and longevity will increase'.

ಇತ್ಯಾರ್ಷೇ ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ರಾಮಾಯಣೇ ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕೀಯೇ ಆದಿಕಾವ್ಯೇ ಬಾಲಕಾಂಡೇ ಚತುಶ್ಚತ್ವಾರಿಂಶ ಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ ||
